Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), this night bounce back to reduce the gap between him and President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), winning Ondo and Abia states as the collation of results of last Saturday’s presidential election continued in Abuja, the country’s capital.
In Ondo, Atiku won 275,901 votes to beat Buhari, who got 241,769 votes.
In Abia, it was 219,698 for Atiku, with Buhari coming a distant second with 85,058 votes.
Buhari had earlier in the evening extended his lead by winning two additional states, namely, Kogi and Gombe.
In Kogi, Buhari won with 285,894 votes as against 218,207 votes by Atiku.
In Gombe State, the margin quite wide, as Buhari garnered 402,961 votes to beat Atiku, who got 138,484 votes.
Buhari had earlier been declared winner of Ekiti, Osun, Kwara and Nasarawa states, losing to Atiku only in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he got 152,224 votes as against 259,997 votes by Atiku.
The collation of results started late this morning at the National Collation Centre located at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. It is being supervised by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu.
