The acting Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the reversal of the name “Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) to Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the former I-G, Mr Ibrahim Idris, in Nov. 2016, changed the name from CRU to PCRRU after five months of assumption of office.
A statement issued by the Head of the unit, Mr Abayomi Shogunle, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, in Abuja on Friday, said the decision was based on a recommendation by the police.
Shogunle explained that the decision also followed some feedbacks from the public and stakeholders working with the unit on police accountability in the country.
The CRU established in Nov. 2015, is a unit in the force saddled with the responsibility of receiving and resolving all complaints about professional misconducts emanating from policing activities and operations nationwide.
He said that members of the public could reach the CRU on 24 hours basis daily via the following channels: 0805 700 0001 and 0805 700 0002 (for phone calls).
