Ahmed Makama, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner Yobe State, has disclosed that all sensitive electoral materials would arrive Damaturu on Wednesday and would be distributed to the 17 local government areas on Thursday preparatory to Saturday’s elections.
The Commissioner stated this in an interview with DAILY POST on the commission’s preparedness for the polls.
The REC, who expressed satisfaction with conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on the 23rd of February 2019, said though the exercise was not without challenges, the commission was able to surmount them giving way for the smooth conduct of the elections.
As the count down to the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections began Monday, INEC, according to the commissioner, is fully prepared to face the exercise headlong.
“We have since dispatched officers of the commission to inspect the state allocation of the electoral sensitive materials deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria in Maiduguri, Borno State,” he noted.
On whether the elections will be conducted in Gujba local government area, Makama said, that will be based on the wish of the voters and security assessment of the situation.
“I urge all stakeholders in the state to maintain the patriotic conduct exhibited during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections so as to enable INEC record another success in the upcoming elections,” the REC said.
