The Sokoto Sultanate Council has enjoined electorate to come out in their numbers and vote candidates of their choice in Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The council gave the charge in a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ladan on Thursday in Sokoto, NAN reports.
The council appealed to the contestants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, concede defeat and cooperate with the ultimate winners as governors and lawmakers.
It also appealed to the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully during and after the election while urging Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct transparent free, fair and credible elections.
“The Council urge security agencies to remain neutral and act in accordance with laid down rules and regulations,” the statement added.
According to the Secretary, the Sultanate Council appreciates Islamic clerics and scholars for their sustained prayers for peace, unity and progress of the nation.
The council further urged political parties to restrain their members from any act that will disrupt the electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), Sokoto state chapter, has also cautioned politicians against incendiary statements that will heat up the state.
A statement signed by BSO Publicity Secretary, Malam Aminu Faruk on Thursday in Sokoto said unguarded statements could also lead to youth restiveness.
