The Jigawa state government has banned rallies and celebration by supporters of winners of the just-concluded state house of assembly and governorship elections in the state.
Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar stated this shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him of Saturday’s election.
Governor Badaru won the election with clear margin over his two major opponents of the Peoples Democratic party PDP and Social Democratic party SDP.
Badaru, who is seeking a second term in office, polled the total of 810,933 votes as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim scored 288,356 while the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Bashir Adamu Jumbo scored 32894 votes.
Governor Badaru also commended the Jigawa state people for giving him their mandate for the second time, and assured to maintain the existing policies and programs in order to move the state forward.
While stating that seventy per cent villages in Jigawa state under his administration benefited from dividends of democracy, he assured that the second tenure is a consolidation of what was achieved in the first tenure.
“Jigawa people have confirmed to the world that they appreciated what we have done in the last four year,” he said.
He urged APC supporters to stay away from any rally celebration, but pray for Allah’s guidance for those elected to discharge their responsibilities.
Governor Badaru also advised those in the opposition to come and join forces with him as he pledged to run an open government and to hear the advice from anybody that will help in moving the state forward.
