The apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Monday charged the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai to resign from office.
Ohanaeze also called for the resignation of the Minister of Defense, Mansur Dan-Ali, over Army’s alleged involvement in electoral malpractice during the Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Rivers State.
The group asked the Nigeria Army to stay out of politics.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Chuks Ibegbu, the group said the “Army’s show of shame at INEC office in Rivers state and its partisan activities in some states of the nation was regrettable.
“The consequences of the Army taking sides in the politics of the country is bad, hence the Chief of Army staff and Defence Minister should resign immediately for such act.”
Ohanaeze also mourned the death of the representative of the Igbo World Assembly in Nigeria, Godwin Ofole.
The organisation described Ofole as a committed Igbo patriot who served Ndigbo with dedication.
