The Operation Sharan Daji, a division of the military said it has killed fifty-five armed bandits during an aggressive encounter with the bandits in a forest in Zamfara State.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, the Acting Force Information Officer, Major Clement K. Abiade said that during the encounter, 760 abductees were rescued which he noted that the abductees comprised women, men and children.
He explained that the 24 logistics suppliers and informants have been handed over to the police for possible prosecution in a court of competent jurisdiction.
The military spokesman pointed out that the troops of operation Shran Daji recovered four AK 47 rifles, one rocket-propelled gun tube , twelve Dane guns, twenty seven AK 47 magazines, 168 rounds of 7..62 mm (special) ammunition , one pump action gun, 47 motorcycles, a Gulf wagons car, 61 rustled cattle,three pounds Indian hemp and other items.
However, Major Abiade noted that in the encounters, one senior military officer, two junior soldiers and some members of the vigilante group were killed.
He stated that several battles and strikes were carried out by the Air component of the Operation Sharan Daji around Kagara, Gando, Fankama, Fete and Dumburum forest where the seven hundred and sixty people were rescued.
