Former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot interfere in choosing the leadership positions of the incoming 9th National Assembly.
Prince Momoh, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, said that it was unfair for anybody to try to decide for the legislative arm of government the leaders it will choose, as they were an independent arm of government as stipulated by the constitution.
“President Buhari clearly knows that the three arms of government all have their operating manual and as such, he doesn’t want to interfere. Some people do not really know that Buhari operates by the book.
“He has clear knowledge that the constitution is a compilation of delegated powers.
“He knows what his powers are and what the limits are.
“He doesn’t want to exceed the limits. A lot of people don’t believe that that should happen and that is why they are clamouring that he should decide who becomes the Senate President or the Speaker.
“As someone who believes in due process and rule of law, he will never do that,” he told Daily Independent on Tuesday
However, DAILY POST recalls that a Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC had earlier said that President Buhari will select the next Senate President.
Senator Omo-Agege also said that no loyalist of Senator Bukola Saraki will be considered for a prime post in the senate.
