The Local Vigilante group in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government area of Rivers State, otherwise known as ONELGA Security Peace and Advisory Council, OSPAC, has rescued a police officer and a civilian from kidnapers’ den.
The OSPAC members raided kidnappers’ dens at Egbeda, Omudioga and Ubimini communities all in Emohua Local Government Area of the state that shared boundary with ONELGA.
The Police officer, Inspector O. Egwi and the other victim, Collins Isaac, were rescued in the course of the operation.
Secretary of OSPAC, Eze Gift Ohia, said they carried out the raid because hoodlums from Emohua were beginning to infiltrate into Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA.
According to him, “We were worried that most of the people coming into ONELGA are usually kidnapped by some of these boys. Sometimes, they hijack buses or cars and divert all the passengers into the bush. This makes people to avoid coming home expect they have security.
“We wrote to the Council Chairmen of Emohua and ONELGA to approve our operation and they did. We raided the villages and found one of the kidnappers’ den with the arrest of one of the hoodlums, Igwe Augustine. We have handed him over to the police.”
The Rivers state Police Command is yet to react to the development.
