Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has hailed members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, serving in the state for their role in ensuring a free, fair and credible election in the state.
He also said that the Corps members showed uncommon sacrifice, patriotism and diligence in discharging their duties as ad hoc staff during the election noting that they had set an example that needs to be emulated by their successors.
Ugwuanyi made this known on Friday in Enugu during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp.
He commended the scheme, saying that it has over the years lived up to its vision and had impacted positively on the development of the country.
“The success of the just concluded general elections and its acclaimed transparency in the state is due in part to the uncommon sacrifice, patriotism and diligence by the corps members,” he said.
The governor urged the corps members to freely integrate with members of their host communities and actively participate in their development efforts.
He said that the state government would continue to create the enabling environment for youths to maximise their potentials.
“The state government has enunciated a new future and a new hope which is embedded in the four point agenda of the state government,” Ugwuanyi said.
In an address, the NYSC Coordinator in Enugu State, Alhaji Ahmed Wada Ikaka welcomed the new Corps members enjoining them to take advantage of the skills acquisition programmes at the camp to become self reliant and contribute to national development.
“I welcome my dear Corps Members to Awgu Camp and rejoice with you on your successful academic endeavours which qualified you to be mobilized to participate in this very important Scheme.
“I therefore urge you to pay special attention to the skills acquisition training which has been reinvigorated by the management of the scheme to create opportunities for you to acquire vocational skills during the service year to enable you contribute meaningfully to national development, become self reliant and attain financial freedom,” he said.
Alhaji Ikaka who thanked the Enugu State Government for its support to the scheme also pleaded for upgrading of facilities in the camp and provision of operational vehicles to facilitate the inspection of Corps members serving in the state.
