Lt.Gen.Tukur Burutai, the chief of Army staff, on Monday launched the operation Harbin Kunama in Gusau, Zamfara State capital to complement the efforts of the operational Sharan Daji, a section of the military.
Addressing newsmen at the I Brigade headquarters in Gusau, the Army chief who spoke through Major Gen.lamidi Adeosun said he was expected to come to the state and launch the exercise but due to some pressing issues beyond his control, he could not be present at the occasion but to delegate one of his subordinates to represent him.
Major Gen. Aeosun explained that the operation Harbin Kunama was originally designed to start operation in June 27th, this year to cover forest areas as the activities of the armed bandits are fast escalating to an unbelievable glare, hence the reason for launching it today.
According to him, Zamfara State has become a well-known colony of armed banditry in the whole state, saying that terror attacks have continued unabated, restricting legitimate endeavours of innocent citizens of the state.
Major Adeosun assured that Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara States would soon be free from the bondage of armed bandits and notorious kidnappers.
He appealed to the law-abiding citizens to give useful information that would lead to eradicating crimes in the State.
Major Gen. Adeosun said the army would not engage any joint civilian Taskforce, saying that they are free to give useful information that would lead to eradicating crimes in the state.
