The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued Certificates of Return to the 25 lawmakers elected during the March 9th State House of Assembly election in Kogi State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Professor James Akpam who presented the certificates to the State House of Assembly members-elect on Wednesday commended the people of the state for conducting themselves peacefully and lawfully throughout the elections.
He urged the members-elect to be transparent, approach their legislative duties in line with democratic principles and provide good governance to the citizens who have elected them.
Some of the newly elected members who spoke expressed gratitude to the people of the state for giving them the mandate, their party APC and the New Direction Government under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello and his team.
The 25 members-elect were all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
DAILY POST reports that, out of the 25 legislative members-elect issued with certificate of return, 6 are returning members.
Speaking shortly after his certificate of return was issued to him by INEC, the member-elect for Ogori/ Magongo seat at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Moses Akande reiterated his commitment towards building on his past developmental programmes as well as keeping to his campaign promises.
Hon. Akande while thanking the state government for its unflinching support before, during and after the election, noted that he would leave no stone unturned towards building on his past developmental stride during his tenure as the administrator of Ogori/Magongo LGA.
He added that his elevation as a member of Kogi state House of Assembly has created a much bigger platform to drive home the dividends of democracy.
Also speaking, the Speaker Kogi state House of Assembly, Prince Mathew Kolawole promised to initiate policies and programmes that would drive the process for job creation to enhance employment and empowerment for the teeming unemployed youths and women of his constituency.
He promised to make himself accessible at all times in addition to addressing the plights of his people.
