The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed 11 board members for the newly established North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The approval followed a satisfactory report by the Senate Committee Chairman on Special duties, Senator Abdullaziz Murtala Nyako, saying that all the nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari have been screened.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of Committee on Special duties on the confirmation of the nomination of the following persons for appointment as Chairman and members of the Board of the North East Development Commission.”
The nomimees had earlier been referred to the Committee after the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki read the list submitted from the presidency.
Nominees who were confirmed are as follows:
Major General Tarfa Paul (retd) Chairman
Mohammed Goni Alkali, MD/CEO
Musa Umar Yashi, ED, Humanitarian Affairs
Muhammed Bawa, ED, Admin and Finance
Omar Maiwada Mohammed, ED, Operations
Hon. David Sabo Kent, Member rep. Northeast
Asmau Mai-Eka Mohammed rep. North West
Hon. Benjamin Tilley Adanyi rep. North Central
Hon. Olawale Oshun rep. South West
Dr. T.E.O. Ekechi rep. South East
Mr. Obasuke McDonald rep. South South
Senators Ike Ekweremadu, Ahmed Lawan and Jibrin Barau commended the Committee for a detailed job, stating that all the nominees were eminently qualified to serve on the Board.
In his remarks, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki advised the board members to begin their work immediately.
