The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abuja Zonal Office has secured the conviction of one internet fraudster, Obasi Wisdom (alias Jeff Peters) before Justice Binta Mohammed of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court sitting in Apo, on a one-count charge of cheating to the tune of $29,000.
The convict was alleged to have pretended to be one Jeff Peters from Arizona in the United States, and induced one Douglas Guidry to send him the sum of $29,000 in the guise of being in a romantic relationship with him.
This is an offence punishable under Section 324 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of the Federation, (Abuja), 1990.
Upon arraignment, the convict pleaded “guilty” to the charge preferred against him.
Justice Mohammed, thereafter, convicted and sentenced him to one month in prison, with an option of N100,000 as fine.
