Following the botched local government elections earlier scheduled to hold on 1st December, 2018, the Ondo State chapter of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP has insisted that the state Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC should refund money paid by the party to the electoral body.
The Chairman of the commission, Prof Yomi Dinakin had fixed December 1 , 2018 for the conduct of the poll, but was later postponed indefinitely due to what was described as the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to release the updated voters register in due time.
However, an aide to the Ondo State Governor had said the state government could not afford to conduct the council poll, saying, “it is not politically correct to conduct election in December, weeks to the 2019 general elections.”
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the cancellation of the election might not be unconnected with court ruling that the Adetimehin led exco list of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidates for the election should not be recognized by ODIEC.
In a statement, the chairman of in Irele Local Government Area, Olowu Idowu Henry pleaded with the electoral commission to refund money paid by the party’s councillorship candidates.
“Since Ondo state Government did not conduct the local Government again, they should at least refund our money we paid for their form.
“Please our Dear Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, kindly help look into the matter,” he said.
