Dapo Abiodun, the Governor-elect of Ogun State, has confirmed the endorsement of Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the ninth House of Representatives by governors and lawmakers-elect from the Southwest.
Abiodun made this known in Abuja on Wednesday after a meeting by newly-elected political office holders from the region.
He said, “Last night, all the newly-elected and serving governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from south west, along with members of the House of Representatives from the same region had a meeting where we unanimously endorsed the candidature of Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as the next speaker for the 9th Assembly.
“We are convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Hon Gbajabiamila has garnered the prerequisite experience, leadership skills and wherewithal to successfully lead the ‘green chamber’ and ensure that we have a smooth working relationship with the executive arm of government at the national level,” he said.
The meeting was hosted at the instances of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti.
Meanwhile, a top All Progressives Congress, APC, contender in the race for the office of Speaker of the incoming National Assembly, Rep. Umar Bago, has said he remains undaunted in his quest to emerge victorious despite his party’s preference of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila,
Speaking with selected journalists recently in Abuja, Bago, said only some persons in the party who are working to impose the APC Majority Leader on the House of Representatives are insisting on Gbajabiamila.
“I am daring you; you can say anything about me, but you cannot talk about corruption. You cannot call me corrupt. As I was telling you, the so-called Director General of Gbajabiamila’s campaign organisation, Jibrin, sued Gbajabiamila and the suit has still not been withdrawn,” he had vowed.
