Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has given a two-week ultimatum to all local council chairman in the state to ensure that all bushes used as criminal hideouts by kidnappers and armed robbers are brought down particularly the Emohua axis of the East-West Road leading to the Kalabari and the Ogoni areas.
Governor Wike, who gave the marching orders in an interactive meeting with traditional rulers, CDC and all youth leaders in the state at the Government House in Port Harcourt, said the State government was poised to clamp down on criminals perpetrating crime and criminality in the state.
Governor, Wike also expressed his administration readiness to end Cultism, Kidnapping and Armed Robbers in the state.
The Governor further warned that the state government will dethrone traditional rulers in communities where cultism and kidnapping are encouraged.
“But local government areas where cultism and kidnapping have become entrenched, the State Government will depart.
“For communities where cultism and kidnapping are encouraged, their traditional rulers will be deposed. We will not allow crisis in our communities. If you don’t want to take the war to them, we will take the war to you”.
Also speaking at the interacting meeting the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Usman Belel said the Rivers State Police Command is committed to fight crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the state.
On his part, the Chairman Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amayanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, while noting that traditional rulers in the state are always ready to work with Government and the security agencies to fight the issue of insecurity in their various domain, blamed some politicians in the state of contributing towards the rising spate of insecurity in the state.
Security agencies, who also attended the interactive meeting includes, State Director of Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi, Commander SOG 115, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commander E.O. Ebiowei, Commander NNS Pathfinder, Commodore SJ Bura and State Commander of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, ML Haruna.
