The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibadan zonal office on Tuesday arrested Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa (now Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic), Dr. Samuel Ogundiran over alleged financial misappropriation.
DAILY POST gathered that Ogundiran was arrested by the anti-graft agency in Ibadan, the State capital on Tuesday.
Our correspondent learnt that Ogundiran was still in Iyaganku office of the anti-graft agency as at the time of filing this report on Wednesday.
It was gathered that Ogundiran was arrested following a petition forwarded to the EFCC.
He was arrested for allegedly approving and paying furniture allowances to members of the Council.
It was gathered that the commission had earlier invited the council members for interrogations which they declined until they were forcefully arrested.
A highly placed staff of the anti-corruption agency confirmed the arrest to DAILY POST Wednesday morning.
DAILY POST reports that the arrest is coming few hours after the immediate past Governor of the State, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi completed his second tenure in office as Governor.
The source said, “They were arrested yesterday. But, don’t quote me. Please, don’t quote me.
“But, they would be released today. They will leave the office today but don’t quote me”.
EFCC spokesman, Tony Oriola who confirmed that Ogundiran is still in EFCC custody, however, said he was invited but not arrested.
Oriola in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST added that he (Ogundiran) would be released on administrative bail after furnishing the commission the necessary information needed.
The EFCC spokesman said, “I got your message and I made enquires. He was not arrested. He was invited. It is when someone who was invited failed to show that he can be arrested.
“There is a difference between arrest and invitation. He was invited but he came late, but he could not finish yesterday. He has given us the information.
“But you know we release people on administrative bail. He is still in the office. But, as soon as he gets someone to stand for him and meets the conditions, he would be released on administrative bail”.
