The burial of the mother of Mohammed Umar Bago, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed, in Niger State on Sunday, nearly turned to a political gathering of bigwigs in the National Assembly, as major contenders of the Speakership position of the House of Representatives assembled to bid farewell to the deceased.
DAILY POST reported that Hon. Bago, a frontline aspirant to the position of Speakership of House of Representatives, lost his mother on Saturday, after a brief illness.
She was buried after Janaizah prayers at the Minna Central Mosque, Bosso road on Sunday.
Bago represents Chanchanga federal constituency which encompasses Minna, the state capital, thus attracting thousands of political players across party divide, the traditional institution and residents of the city.
No fewer than 90 lawmakers, old and new members, paid their last respects.
Among them were the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. John Dyegh and Olubunmi Odebunmi.
Other key members of the House that were around to commesirate with Bago included Hons. Mukthar Betara, Zakari Mohammed, Abdulmumuni Jibrin, Rima Shawulu and Abdulsamad Dasuki.
Others included the 9 other members elect from Niger state namely Shehu Sale, Jafaru Agwara, Abdullahi Musa,
Abubakar Lado, Shehu Beji, Saidu Umar, Mahmoud Agaie, Abdullahi Kontagora and Abdullahi Gbatamangi.
Senator elect, Haliru Jika from Bauchi state, Hon. Yunusa Abubakar from Gombe, Hon. Idris Kabir from Kano State, Abdulsadiq Maiyanma, Rufai Chachangi and Sani Idris Kutigi were also on hand to pay their respects.
Dogara, who spoke on behalf of the House leadership prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
He said: “On behalf of the Leadership and entire Members of the House of Representatives, I commiserate with our colleague and brother, Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, over the demise of his beloved mother Hajiya Aishatu Mohammed.
“I pray the Almighty God grant the entire family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
