The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf has threatened to take legal action against the speaker of the ECOWAS parliament, Cisse Lo, for accusing him of fraud.
Cisse Lo had, in his closing remark at the ECOWAS session in Abuja, said that Nigeria’s Deputy Speaker and other members of the nation’s delegation to the parliament received full payment without attending plenary.
Lasun, however claimed there has never been a time he requested payment, nor was he paid.
In a statement yesterday by his Press Secretary, Mr. Wole Oladimeji, the Deputy Speaker threatened legal action against the ECOWAS secretariat if they failed to retract the statement in a few days.
Lasun, who also doubles as first Deputy Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, specifically stressed that if by Thursday the Speaker and the secretariat failed to retract the claim, he would proceed to the court.
He said, “By Thursday, the Speaker and the secretariat should be expecting legal action, should they fail to retract the claim.
“I have been out of the country since two weeks ago. I was worried and embarrassed that the speaker could go dirty at plenary to make an unparliamentarily remark about my person.”
