The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Wednesday, swore in Transition Chairman and Deputies for the 17 local government areas of the state.
Addressing the 17 LG Transition Committee chairmen and deputies at the event held in Michael Okpara Auditorium, the governor charged them to perform their duties with diligence and honesty, as well as initiate programmes that would foster peace in Abia State.
Ikpeazu also instructed the chairmen to attract investors to their various councils to achieve human and infrastructural development of the state.
He, however, maintained that his administration was performances driven and would not condone any form of laxity to duty from the newly TC chairmen.
Recall that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government had approved the appointment of Transition Committee Chairmen for the 17 local government areas of the state.
This was made known last week in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, and obtained by newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
However, the Abia state chapter of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), called for proper elections to be conducted in the 17 Local government areas of the state, to enable the people elect those who will oversee their council affairs.
They condemned the appointment of Transition Committee chairmen for the 17 local government areas of Abia State by the Ikpeazu-led government, alleging that the action of the governor was another conduit pipes to milk the state funds.
