A total of 197 Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) personnel in Nasarawa State Command have been promoted to the next ranks.
Mr Emmanuel Okoro, Controller of the Command, disclosed this at the decoration ceremony held on Saturday in Lafia.
He said the figure was made up of 89 senior officers and 108 ranks and file across prisons formations in the command, NAN reports.
Okoro charged the newly promoted officers to justify the confidence reposed on them by doing what is expected of them in their various formations and units.
He said that promotion was done based on merit, adding that the personnel met all the requirements needed in the service for the exercise.
”As a person, I don’t expect anything less from them other than what is expected from the people who have been uplifted.
“There is a general saying, whom much is given, much is expected, I expect them to understand the tortuous journey prior to this; none of the promoted officers is less than 10 years in the service,” he said.
While wishing the newly promoted personnel success, the state controller enjoined them to redouble their efforts and be responsible in the discharge of their duties; noting that all eyes would be on them.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted personnel, Joseph Namo, an Assistant Controller of Prisons, thanked the service for finding them worthy of the honour done to them.
“As for us the promoted officers, the confidence the Federal Government has on us by promoting us will be justified by our hard work; we will redouble our efforts in the discharge of our service to our fatherland Nigeria,” he said.
