The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has waded into recent claims on social media that some governors in the region had donated land for the controversial Ruga project.
Reports were rife lately that the governors secretly donated land for the project, but the South-East Governors’ Forum has since rubbished such claims.
Speaking on a similar note, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said its independent investigations showed that no such thing happened.
He warned rumour peddlers to desist from fanning unnecessary tension in the Southeast Zone.
In the statement made available to DAILY POST, Isiguzoro urged Igbos “to disregard such rumours as it only exists in the figment of the imagination of the originators, it’s a huge joke aimed at causing civil disturbances in the Southeast, and spark out riots capable of derailing good Governance in the South East.”
He disclosed that the “OYC has carried out an independent investigation on the report of alleged involvement of two governors in the weighty allegations of sabotage against Igbos’ position on Ruga settlement, by interviewing both the traditional rulers and Town Union Presidents and Youths from the affected areas, where the alleged illegal deals took place, but our intelligence report and findings show that the Governors are totally clean of all the allegations.
“We warn the Biafra agitators involved in this to verify reports before coming out to peddle such weighty allegations in the future.
“Our records indicate that Governor Ikpeazu on Radio link, a Saturday weekend phone in live program on Radio Nigeria (FRCN) June 22nd 2019, rejected the Ruga settlement program, and openly declared that Abia land is not available for Ruga settlement, and the South East Governors’ Forum led by Gov Dave Umahi also dissociated any South East Governor from participating in any deal on Ruga.”
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths will want to assure all stakeholders in Igbo land, especially our brothers in agitation, that we will not fail to sanction anyone who is involved in any sabotage against Igbos in regards to Ruga settlement.
“Igbos are united against Ruga settlement, and we support the position of South East Governors that all Fulani herdsmen are banned from conveying their cows on foot, and we’ll not fail to implement the ban on conveying cows on foot throughout our roads and forestry.
“We are equally appeal to Biafra agitators to desist from any planned protests against the Governors over the Ruga settlement.
“There’s no need to spill innocent blood of our youths. We Urge the concerned agitators to desist from actions that will drive foreign investors away from the huge investments coming to Enyimba Economic City in Abia state,” the OYC President added.
