Uche Ogah, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees, has warned that Nigeria will soon be unable to spend on capital projects if the nation’s refineries do not work.
Ogah made the declaration while being grilled by Senators during his confirmation hearing on the floor of the upper legislative chambers on Wednesday.
Responding to a question on the state of refineries and what he intends to do to solve the problem, Ogah said he would appear before the Senate to propose a solution to make all the nation’s refineries work.
He said: “Nigeria remains the country depending on refinery products. What we need are more funds to be injected into making the refineries work.
“I believe that if given the opportunity, I’ll look into the cause of the problem with our refineries and provide a way forward to restore our refineries. The best thing we can do as a nation is to have refineries and make them work, how to get them to work is to get the willpower to drive this country.
“They would be no money to spend on capital projects in Nigeria soon if refineries don’t work,” Ogah warned.
