The Managing Director of GTO Projects Limited, Mr Oluwarotimi George-Tailor has accused Dr Babatunde Osinowo, the son of Senator Bayo Osinowo, representing Lagos East senatorial district of burglary and theft in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
This was contained in a petition George-Tailor sent to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu Mohammed, the copy which was obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday.
According to the petition, the junior Oshinowo, who is representing his father in the said company sometimes in 2018, in connivance with other individuals allegedly broke into George-Tailor’s residence located at Aboaba quarters, GRA, in Osogbo metropolis and stole some items including vital documents.
The petition further accused the Police in Osun of shielding Oshinowo by its refusal to charge him appropriately to court, calling on the IG to intervene and ensure justice is done irrespective of the personalities that are involved.
The petition reads in part : ” I am writing principally to bring to your attention the clandestine move to subvert the cause of justice and allow offender to go scot-free against the extant law of our land in the case involving Dr Babatunde Oshinowo, who is a representative of Senator from Lagos East, Bayo Oshinowo in our company.
“Babatunde Oshinowo, alongside his other cohorts led by one Omoba Adeyinka Oyediran broke into my apartment at Aboaba quarters at GRA Osogbo to cart away my property, and several vital documents.
“Unfortunately, the police in Osun has been acting against the tenets of the force by trying to shield the culprits even after recovering some of the stolen property from them, which ordinarily should serve as an exhibit for prosecution.
“The police in the state has refused to charge those individuals that involved in the act to court, despite several petitions written to them to take action and ensure justice is done.
“I believe nobody is above the law of the land no matter how highly placed the person is, this is unbecoming of Nigerian police and indeed a profound odium for the force if the matter is not quickly addressed and the right thing is done without delay”.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Folashade Odoro when contacted refuted the claim that police is shielding the culprits, but, however, added that it is a case of burglary in which police is still investigating.
