Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia, with immediate effect.
Governor Wike also sacked the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of RSU, Professor Magnus Oruwari.
The Governor, therefore, approved the appointment of Professor Opuenebo B. Owei, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, respectively.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, Dagogo Adonye Hart, added that, “The Governor has suspended the ongoing employment exercise at the university.
“Furthermore, a committee has been set up to investigate the employment exercise and report to the Rivers State Governor in two weeks.”
Governor Wike earlier on his return from the UK sacked the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Samuel Eguma.
Wike, who did not state the reason for his decision, added that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Eguma was also sacked with immediate effect.
Governor Wike said the action is to serve as deterrent to other government officials who spend funds without approval.
