Vigilante groups in Zamfara state have surrendered their firearms to the state governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle at the Government House in Gusau.
Daily Post reports that the firearms were surrendered after a closed-door meeting with the Fulani leaders and Yansakai group for the sustenance of peace and reconciliation process initiated by the state government.
The governor who urged both parties to embrace tranquillity in efforts to move the state forward also commended the groups for presenting their firearms to government and security agencies in the state.
The governor, however, appealed to the Fulani leaders to warn their followers to maintain the existing peace as no society can progress and survive without peace.
“There is no responsible government that can afford to treat the issue of insecurity with a mere wave of the hand and no society can progress or survive without peace,” he said.
Matawalle assured that such kind of meeting will be conducted on a monthly basis between Fulani leaders and theYansakai group to consolidate the peace being enjoyed presently in the state.
The governor urged the citizens of the state to endeavour to assist the security agencies with useful information that would help serve the society perfectly and efficiently.
While charging security operatives to put more efforts to ensure that the battle is won, he urged them not to relent their efforts to keep lives and property safe in the state.
