No fewer than fourteen members of the Yansakai group, alleged to have killed some bandits in the guise of protecting lives and properties of Zamfara state indigenes have been arrested by the combined efforts of the security agencies operating in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogations at the state police command in Gusau, the state capital.
Investigations by DAILY POST reveal that the suspects have made confessional statements to police authority, admitting that they were aware of the reprisal attacks that killed 14 people and burnt over ten houses.
The attack at Karayi village in Gumi local government area of the state, for which the suspects were arrested, had left many with varying degrees of injuries.
The state commissioner of police, Alhaji Usman Nagogo said he was not happy with the development especially when the state government and security agencies were making efforts to see peace return fully to the state.
According to Nagogo, no amount of persuasion from any quarters would set the suspected culprits free without facing the law and the consequences of their actions.
“I have sworn that I would not compromise with anybody body as far as security is concerned. One can not rubbish some people’s lives and expect to be set free” he said.
Nagogo noted that the issue of security in Zamfara state has gone beyond compromise, adding that every life is useful to the society.
He explained that since he became the state commissioner of police, security had become endurable to the people of the state
“I do not need anybody to tell me that security of lives and properties of the people is my paramount responsibility in the state and I must ensure that that responsibility has been invested on”
When contacted, the security adviser to governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, Alhaji Abubakar Daura said the Yansakai in the first place have no constitutional right to kill the nine Fulani bandits even though they are operating contrary to the law.
According to him, even the Fulani bandits that killed over 14 innocent citizens of Karayi village must be arrested to give justice to the whole situation.
He further stated that the state government under Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle would not allow the situation to go unattended to, stressing that justice must prevail by all means.
It could be recalled that the state government under Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has in the past few days battled with the former governor over who is responsible for the terror attacks in the state.
Former governor Abdulaziz Yari has claimed that the terrorist attacks were perpetrated by the governor’s boys whom he said were brought up under Matawalle’s eyes.
He challenged Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to show proof of evidence that he Yari was responsible for the crimes going on in the state.
The former governor commended Governor Matawalle for telling the whole world that he is the arrowhead of insecurity in the state, calling him to tender evidence that would justify his claims
In a swift response, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle warned that Abdulaziz Yari should know in his mind that what went on during his autocratic government was not a democracy, adding that the killings of innocent citizens of the state started from his administration and not the present administration
“I have tried my best to ensure that I do not have problems with anyone but Abdulaziz Yari has pushed me to the wall and I can not accept it,” the governor said.
According to governor Matawalle, Yari was only doing what he is doing to attract public attention that he is being witch haunted by the current administration in the state.
