A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed happiness after the Federal Government ordered the release of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki and convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday.
Malami said the decision to release Sowore and his co-accused was in compliance with the bail granted the two by the court.
“The two defendants are enjoined to observe the terms of their bail and refrain from engaging in any act that is inimical to public peace and national security as well as their ongoing trial which will run its course in accordance with the laws of the land,” the statement read in part
Reacting to the development, Fani Kayode in a tweet on his official Twitter page on Tuesday, said it was the right thing to do.
He wrote: “I am delighted to hear that the Federal Government, through Attorney General Malami, has ordered the release of Col. Sambo Dasuki and @YeleSowore. That is the way to GO!!! Thanks be to God!
DAILY POST recalls that Sowore has been in custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, since he called for a revolution against the current government earlier in the year.
Despite been granted bail by courts, the secret police had refused to set him free.
On December 9, 2019, DSS operatives had re-arrested Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja, less than 24-hours after granting him freedom.
A few weeks ago, Malami, ordered the DSS to hands-off the prosecution of Sowore.
