Member representing Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Chinedu said he sponsored a motion curbing heavy consumption of alcohol among underage youths because of its disastrous effect.
He said the enforcement of the law will guide Nigerian youths and teenagers, noting that criminality in the society stems from alcoholic influence and other psychoactive substances.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of Imo Concerns Citizens, Mr. Chilagorom Ifeanyi, made available to DAILY POST in Abuja on Tuesday, Hon. Chinedu said, there were other bills with good intentions that he sponsored as a first timer in the last seven months.
He said even as a first timer, he has a grasp of lawmaking which was borne out of his preparedness to effectively represent his constituents.
The statement reads:
“As a matter of fact, I have been termed: “Voice of the voiceless” by Nigerian students and their parents for calling on the Federal Government to stop Acceptance Fee collection by the Nigerian Universities.
“Members of Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) were excited that I moved a motion for scrapping of Acceptance Fee paid by students who are offered admission into various institutions.
The lawmaker further lamented that majority of Nigerians lacked maintenance culture, a situation he said, was responsible for infrastructural decay in the society.
“I pushed a Bill for Federal Facilities Management Agency, which has just passed the first Reading at the National Assembly.
“This particular Bill will help promote maintenance culture in Nigeria society as the majority of our public facilities/establishments are in total decay.
“I also championed the debate on the floor of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, on a Bill for an Act to amend the Constitution to make provision for Free and Compulsory basic education in Nigeria, sponsored by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
“I moved a motion on the Need to Curb the Rising incidence of Building Collapse in Nigeria. Everyone knows very well, how lives and properties have been lost so far on building collapse in Nigeria.
The lawmaker further noted that he was already to be criticised constructively on issues that are within his legislative ambit.
