A man identified as Onyeaocha Umuokwu, who is a domestic staff of an influential Anambra indigene, from Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, Engr Emeka Eze has been shot dead.
The incident occurred on Christmas day.
Umuokwu was allegedly chasing after a cow, which was to be slaughtered for the Christmas, but had untied itself and was fleeing. However, an unidentified security personnel, in a bid to stop the cow from escaping, shot at it, only to gun down the aide.
A source in Alor identified the culprit as a policeman, but it was later gathered from state Command’s PPRO, Haruna Mohammed that the personnel who shot, was a DSS officer.
Haruna, however, recanted later, saying that the identity of the suspect was yet to be ascertained, and that an investigation had been instituted to unravel his person.
Haruna had stated in a previous release, “The attention of the Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading report being circulated in the social media that one Onyeocha Umuokwu was allegedly shot by a Police Officer at Engineer Eze house on the 25/12/2019 in Alor Community, Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.
“The above report probably orchestrated by mischief makers who want to portray the Police in bad light is totally misleading.
“In order to clear ambiguity and to set the record straight, on the 25/12/2019 at the residence of one Engr Emeka Eze ‘m’ of Umuokwu village Alor, a DSS personnel whose identity is yet unknown attached to a VIP allegedly fired gun shot at a cow in a bid to stop it from escaping but the bullet missed target and allegedly hit one Nnaemaka Nnabuenyi(a domestic staff of the said Engineer) popularly known as Onyeocha and the victim died on the spot. The incident was not reported to Police.”
In a later release, Haruna discountenanced the previous, saying that the identity of the suspect was not fully ascertained, and that the command has launched investigation into it.
DAILY POST learnt that Emeka Eze, the man in whose compound Umuokwu was shot down, is a prominent Indigene of Alor, who was said to have been a head of a Federal agency in the past.
Some indigenes who spoke to DAILY POST lamented the loss of Umuokwu, describing him as a very popular indigene of the community.
The body of the late aide has been deposited in an undisclosed morgue in the area.
