The Abia state government says it will demolish any residential buildings converted to shops if owners refuse to revert back to the original building plan.
The Commissioner of Trade and Investment in the state, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, in a statement issued on Sunday in Umuahia, also directed traders in the state to move to government approved markets, adding that the State government has built many relief markets to ensure full accommodation of the traders in the approved markets for ease flow of their businesses.
“Landlords and house owners should also note that all the residential buildings converted to shops will face demolition if they refuse to revert back to the original building plan.
“Those selling households equipment, clothes, shoes, wholesalers of any kind of product etc at Orieugba Market should please move to Ubani market. Orie ugba Market is only meant to serve as a relief market for perishable goods.
“The Ministry of Trade and Investment will enforce these directives without further notice to those concerned, plans are under way to give further non payment relief to all those parking in Ubani for a period not less than 6 months”.
