The United Nations ambassador to Iran, Majid Takht Raranchi, has said that the country’s next move will depend on the actions of the United States.
Ravanchi stated this on Wednesday while calling for the removal of US forces from the Middle East region.
“Iran is not interested in war, Iran is not interested in escalation of tension in the region,” Ravanchi told Al Jazeera.
“Increasing tensions in the region will not be in the interest of anybody, so Iran definitely would like to have peace established in the neighbourhood and the first ingredient for peace in the region is the removal of the forces, the American forces, from our region.”
Earlier reports suggests that Iran had sent words to the United States that it does not want war and does not intend to carry out further attacks on American targets.
This came after Iran launched over 15 missiles on US bases in Iraq in retaliation for the death of Qassem Soleimani, who was buried on Tuesday.
Reports in Iran and Iraq also suggest that Tehran deliberately avoided causing damages and casualties during the attack in a bid to avoid war.
US President Donald Trump, while giving updates on the missile attacks, also assured that there were no casualties or damages on American assets.
