The Management of Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has denied reports of the outbreak of Lassa Fever which was reported to have killed two people at the hospital
A press statement by the Nigerian Medical Association, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital had claimed that two doctors who cared for a pregnant woman, including the woman had died as a result of Lassa Fever.
The report alleged that the pregnant woman from Bauchi State, suspected to be a carrier, died after undergoing a caesarean section 20 days ago at the AKTH.
However, Hauwa Abdullahi spokesperson of the Teaching Hospital denied the lassa fever story, saying it was premature for anybody to conclude that the Pregnant Woman and two health workers died of Lassa Fever.
Hauwa said there are three stages of investigations on the issue of Lassa Fever and they are on them, adding that he would soon issue a statement on the matter.
But the State Ministry for Health Spokesperson Samaila Gwammaja noted that a sample has been taken to Lagos for analysis and results were expected tomorrow.
The ministry’s spokesman, Sama’ila Gwammaja also explained that the deaths were still suspected case and the blood sample had already been taken for analysis.
He said, “the result is expected tomorrow (Wednesday) hopefully 2 pm, when he promised to converge a Press Conference on the matter.
