Abba Moro, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, has condemned the recent attack on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State in his farm located along Makurdi – Naka road by suspected herdsmen.
Moro said the attack on Ortom was a declaration of war on people of the state by marauding herdsmen.
DAILY POST had reported that Ortom, who disclosed that the herdsmen shot at him, had said: “I went my farm last week and herdsmen who were coming back to Benue state in their numbers shot at me.”
Reacting to the incident, Moro thanked God for sparing the life of the Governor.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Ameh Godwin, Moro said: “The attack on the Chief Security Officer and No.1 citizen of Benue State is a declaration of war on the people of the state by the marauding herdsmen and must be condemned by all and sundry.
“The attack on Governor Ortom is an attack on all the citizens of the state and must not be allowed to repeat itself.”
The Senator called on appropriate agencies of government to rise up to their duties by taking necessary actions against armed herders, who have been disturbing the peace of the country, especially Benue State.
“The calmness being enjoyed by the people of the Benue State through the efforts of the governor and other leaders in the state must not be frustrated by those who have constituted themselves into enemies of peace and progress,” Moro said.
The senator urged the governor not to be distracted by the incident but should continue to defend the interests of the state.
