The Kogi State government has confirmed two separate robbery and kidnapping attempts that took place in Obajana, Lokoja and Gegu on Tuesday.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the state commissioner for Information and communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, stating that the government has stepped up patrol operations across the State as a way of ensuring the security of lives and citizens properties of the citizens.
DAILY POST gathered that, Security operatives Manning the Kabba/Lokoja and Gegu Abuja express roads on Tuesday foiled two separate robbery and kidnapping attempts in the state.
According to sources, the first incident occurred along Obaja/ Lokoja expressway when 3 brand new SUVs were recovered from the suspects while another incident was reported in Gegu along Lokoja/Abuja expressway.
It was further learnt that, the three SUVs were transiting from Lagos to Abuja before they were ambushed by the suspected armed robbers after a village called Agbede which is a stone throw to Obajana cement factory.
Travellers, according to eyewitness were held for several hours but it took the intervention of security operatives from nearby check point who mobilized to the spot to dislodged them.
The armed robbery suspects according to reports allegedly opened fire on the vehicles but luckily, none of the occupants of the car got hurt.
Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Commissioner for information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo said, “Government received the twin attacks in Gegu and Obajana areas and the Governor has directed the State Security Adviser to coordinate security operations not only to apprehend the pockets of criminals who perpetrated the acts; but to ensure that the flash points are well covered to guarantee safety of lives and property across the State.
“As a Government, we are not prepared to negotiate with any criminal. We will dismantle their gathering storm with the Operation Total Freedom that has the capacity to ensure we retain the confidence of our people in the area of securing them and their property”.
He said that Government of Kogi State will stop at nothing to retain its ratings as the second most committed to security, as the lives of its citizens and those of travellers within its territories are important to the government.
