Notorious gunmen in Zamfara State have now changed their mode of operation by targetting and killing prominent leaders of the volunteer groups known as “Yansakai security men” to have free day to attack vulnerable and defenceless communities.
Our correspondent can authoritatively state that in their most recent attacks, the armed bandits have taken over Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area of the State, killing a popular leading figure of the volunteers group, Nura Dankurma along with 15 others.
An eyewitness told our reporter that the bandits had earlier in the day, blocked the busy Gusau/Dansadau road, attacking commercial vehicles carrying passengers and killing three passengers on the spot.
According to an impeccable source, the bandits after killing the three passengers moved to Malele village in Matunji in the same district where members of the community, accompanied by the volunteer groups encountered them, saying that “In the fire for fire that lasted for over three hours, the bandits killed eight people, burnt two trucks and carted away their cattle”.
According to our source, in another coordinated attack, the bandits invaded Babban Kwari village and killed eight others, burnt down four trucks and 16 motorcycles belonging to members of the communities.
When contacted, the State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Muhammad Dauran stated that the information available to him confirms the loss of seven, explaining that “bandits from neighbouring Niger and Kaduna states were dislodged by the ongoing military operations in synergy with other security agencies.”
It could be recalled that the bandits had last Wednesday, attacked a community in the same Wanke, Gusau emirate and in the operation that was said to have lasted for hours, succeeded in killing another renowned leader of the Yansakai group popularly known as Bala mai Gora, allegedly along with ten others.
Our reporter can authoritatively report that bandits attack was during last Monday’s market session in Birnin Tsaba of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area and allegedly killed four persons, two of whom were twin brothers.
