President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, approved the release of 70,000 tonnes of grains from Nigeria’ National Strategic Grain Reserves, to be distributed to the poor and vulnerable amid the coronavirus lockdown.
This was confirmed via a tweet on the verified Twitter handle of the Presidency.
The grains are for persons in states that have recorded cases of coronavirus and for people whose livelihoods will be affected by the lockdown.
“President @MBuhari has approved the release of 70,000 Metric Tonnes of Grains from Nigeria’s National Strategic Grain Reserves, for distribution to poor and vulnerable persons in frontline #COVID19 States, as well as persons whose livelihoods will be affected by the Lockdowns,” the tweet read.
Buhari had ordered a 14-day lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states.
The president today also directed conditional cash transfers for the most vulnerable in the society.
