Rev Binos Yaroe, the senator representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District in the upper chamber, has tested negative for Coronavirus after 14 days of self-isolation.
Sen Binos disclosed his status on Thursday during an interaction with newsmen at his Yola residence, saying it was his duty as a public official to take the steps he took.
He clarified that as an elected senator, he went on self-isolation for 14 days due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic and as directed by the leadership of the Senate.
“At the expiration of the 14 days, I submitted myself again to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for examination. The NCDC interviewed me, and on the basis that I am not symptomatic after the mandatory self-isolation, saw no need to conduct further tests and subsequently has relieved me of all apprehensions,” Binos said.
He added that he isolated himself even when he, to the best of his knowledge, had no contact with anyone who had tested positive.
He said he did this even before the NCDC advised self-isolation, in his interest and the interest of his family, friends and society.
DAILY POST recalls that much controversy trailed Binos’ 14-day isolation, including speculations that he was visiting hotels when he was supposed to be observing complete isolation.
He dismissed this, saying he visited no such places, that the speculation was the handiwork of known mischief-makers.
The senator’s self-isolation itself was kept a top-secret, even as details emerged that he was a suspected coronavirus case, it was vehemently denied, and the reality of his doubtful status was consigned to a rumor, until the press briefing of Thursday.
