The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed sadness over the death of Dr. Caleb Anya who died from Coronavirus in New York, USA.
Anya, who hails from Abia state was among the three Nigerians who died at the frontline of the fight against Coronavirus.
Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, the Consul General of Nigeria in New York confirmed that Anya got the virus while he was on duty in New York, which is the epicentre of the pandemic in the US.
Gov. Ikpeazu in a statement signed by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Honourable Commssioner for Information, offered his condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Anya.
The governor prayed that all other health workers who risk their lives daily be protected as they help battle against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the sad news of the loss of Dr Caleb Anya in New York, USA.
“According to information available to us, Dr Anya, a medical practitioner of Abia origin, was at the frontlines of the fight against coronavirus and was infected in the course of tending to others and lost his precious life to it.
“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the Government and entire people of our state mourn with the family, friends and relations of the late Dr Anya as well as the people of Ohafia where he hails from.
“His loss reminds us of the risk health workers in our state and globally take daily to protect the rest of us and we use this opportunity to once more salute their courage and sense of sacrificial service to others.
“May the soul of Dr Caleb Anya and others who have lost their lives in this pandemic rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
