The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has said there would be effective implementation of the Social Investment Programme (SIP) by her ministry.
In a statement made available to DAILY POST in Abuja, on Thursday, she explained that a reform had been carried out to effectively drive the programme as against what used to happen in the past.
She said the issue of disbursement raised by the leadership of the National Assembly at various meetings would be taken into consideration.
She said: “Contrary to the verdict made by the leadership of the National Assembly over the implementation of the Social Investment Programme by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, we have undertaken reforms aimed at implementing a good scheme to the poor.
“The ministry has put up measures to effectively implement the social intervention programme with the disbursement of packages as palliatives to cushion the effect of the vulnerable Nigerians directly to the beneficiaries.
“The issues raised by the leadership of the National Assembly on the execution of the disbursement aimed at assuaging the plight of poor Nigerians against COVID-19 can be tackled in a manner that will be acceptable to all Nigerians.”
The Minister further explained that her ministry, in consultation with state governors, had agreed to come up with accurate data on primary schools so as to embark on food rationing.
According to her, the ministry had also obtained a comprehensive and digitized register that will put an end to fears raised by the National Assembly on both the school feeding programme and the vulnerable people.
