The Victims Support Funds VSF committee in the North East, today donated items worth 100 million naira to support the poor during the COVID 19 lockdown in Taraba State.
The subcommittee of the VSF led by Mrs. Toyinsi Ogunsuji who paid a courtesy call on Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state on Friday said the committee brought both food and non-food items in the state as palliatives to support the poor.
Ogunsuji said the items include different types of food, soaps, sanitizers, disinfectants masks, medicines and other medical supplies.
She said VSF’s target was to reach vulnerable people, poor homes, internally displaced persons IDPs and victims of insurgency who are residing in the state.
Ogunsuji expressed hope that those saddled with the responsibility of sharing the item would be just in ensuring that it gets to the needy.
Governor Darius Ishaku while responding to Ogunsuji assured both the committee and the people of the state that the items will surely get to the locals who are the target of the VSF in the state.
Ishaku said the state government was the first in the country to lock down all its land borders to prevent cases of COVID 19, he thanked God that the measures he earlier took have helped, such that no single case of the disease is recorded across the state.
“We are going to ensure that the items get to the poor and the locals who are in most need of them, we are going to engage the Muslim Council, Christian Association of Nigeria CAN and other trusted NGOs for onward distribution of the items”
He thanked the TY Danjuma led committee for having the people of the state at heart, he also called on the people of the state to keep to the rules and preventive measures of the COVID 19 to avoid its spread in the state.
