Governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje has issued a warning to residents as cases of COVID-19 increase to twenty-seven in the state.
The Nigerian Center for Disease and Control, NCDC, on Friday confirmed six new cases of Coronavirus in Kano state.
Speaking on the spike in the number of cases, Ganduje appealed to Kano residents to obey lockdown orders in order to curb the spread of Coronavirus and avoid being arrested by security agencies.
He urged residents to perform prayers or activities indoors henceforth.
On his Twitter page, Ganduje wrote: “With the number of infected persons now up to 27, I would like to appeal to my constituents to obey the lockdown rules.
“ This is merely a phase that will pass us by so it’s important we adhere to the rules.
“Regular activities can be carried out in your homes or postponed until after the lockdown. It is not the government’s pleasure to arrest well-meaning members of the society but we will enforce the law as we try to contain the pandemic.”
The Governor further warned residents against fake news making the rounds, adding that “disinformation seems to have become the secondary threat after #COVID19.”
“ I would like to implore our news agencies and media to please fact check every information that is put out to avoid causing confusion and making matters worse than they currently are.
“Let us work together as we unite, safely in our homes, against COVID-19.”
