Criticism has trailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s second live broadcast on Coronavirus pandemic some days back.
The speech as delivered by the President was described as lacking focus and direction.
Barr. Justice C. Uhuegbu, a Human Rights Activist stated this while on a phone interview with DAILY POST.
He said that the President merely read out a script prepared for him and not a speech. He wondered why the presidency would be playing politics at a time when the pandemic is getting more seriously across the globe.
“If FG is not playing politics with the pandemic, why is the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, exempted from the lockdown order as given by the President?
“I can tell you, there are several other government establishments which are secretly working and no one is raising an eyebrow.
“Up till this moment, no reasonable palliatives or relief materials have been given to the people for asking them to stay at home. I bet you, hunger is killing more than the COVID-19.
“Everything in Nigeria must not be politics. Look at the huge sums that good-spirited individuals and companies have donated so far, what has the federal government done with the money?
“How will you ask someone to stay at home without food? Our leaders should be sensitive in their thinking.
“What do you call a situation where the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, is claiming to have spent billions of naira in sending mere SMS to Nigerians? This is corruption at its peak.
The Human Rights lawyer who is also the President, Association for Good Governance, maintained that the Federal Government has not done enough to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the country, regretting the increase in number of cases on a daily basis.
He urged all Nigerians to be patient and follow the precautionary measures as given by medical experts such as regular washing of hands, use of alcohol-based sanitizers and maintaining social distancing in this period of Coronavirus.
