Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has declared the state free of Coronavirus.
Wike said this while giving updates on the Coronavirus cases in the state on Saturday.
He said the discharge of the second index case has freed the state of COVID-19.
DAILY POST recalls that the second Coronavirus patient was confirmed negative on Friday.
According to Wike, the proactive measures adopted by the state were the reasons for the swift and measurable success to stop the spread of the disease in Rivers State.
In a series of posts on his Twitter page, Wike wrote: “Following the treatment and discharge of the second index case in our treatment centre, I am very delighted to announce that there is presently no single case of the presence of coronavirus in our State.
“This is real good news we must all celebrate and thank the Almighty God for answering our prayers and shielding our State from this dreadful epidemic, which has caused so much death and untold human misery across the world.”
He, however, warned that despite the state being free of Coronavirus at the moment, safety measures should be observed.
“Much as we remain excited by our current status as a coronavirus-free State, this does not mean that we are safe and free from being affected any further.
“The reality is that the virus is well around us, and probably, could even be within us among asymptomatic carriers,” his tweet added.
