Australia is seeking support for an international investigation into the coronavirus pandemic.
The country’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison spoke to US President Donald Trump on Tuesday night over the matter.
The United Kingdom, France and the US had on different occasions accused China of refusing to tell the world how the deadly virus that started spreading in Wuhan late last year originated.
Australia is calling for an independent review of the origins of the virus and its spread.
China had kicked against a similar call by Australian Foreign Minister, Marise Payne, who had called for an international investigation into the origins and spread of the deadly virus.
China accused Australia of parroting the US, which has been critical of China and the World Health Organization (WHO), withdrawing its funding for the UN health body.
Announcing his meeting with Trump on Tuesday night, Morrison tweeted, “Just got off the phone with US President @realDonaldTrump. We had a very constructive discussion on our health responses to #COVID19 and the need to get our market-led and business centres economies up and running again.
“We also talked about the @WHO and working together to improve the transparency and effectiveness of international responses to pandemics.
“Australia and the US are the best of mates and we’ll continue to align our efforts as we work towards the recovery on the other side of this virus.”
