Five persons have been convicted by a Port Harcourt Magistrate’s Court, Rivers State, for violating the provisions of the state’s Quarantine Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Other Infectious Diseases Regulations and Executive Orders.
They were convicted after pleading guilty to a five-count slammed on them by the office of the Attorney-General of the State.
They were ordered to pay fines.
The Court also remanded 33 others who pleaded not guilt to the charges at the State Isolation Centre to undergo screening for COVID-19 pending the consideration of their bail applications and trial.
About 38 accused persons were arraigned before the court by the Office of the Attorney-General on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that the palliatives being distributed across Local Government Areas in the State were for the less privileged and not campaign materials.
He stated this while distributing foodstuffs to the less-privileged in all the wards of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.
