The Traditional Prime Minister of Isiama Afaraukwu, Chief Chimechefulam Odoemelam has appealed to the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Jane Agbede, to intervene in the breakdown of law and order in the community, following a recent crisis where a vehicle was burnt and many wounded.
Chief Odoemelam in an exclusive interview with gatmash.com says there is no war in Nnamdi Kanu’s country home, Isiama Afaraukwu in Umuahia, Abia State, as reported by a section of the press. He appealed to the police chief to send an investigation team to come and find out the true state of affairs, with a view to restoring peace to the community.
“I was the President-General of the Community during the reign of the late Monarch, Eze Isreal O. Kanu, father of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, before becoming the traditional prime minister.
“First of all, let me make some clarifications, Ikechukwu Ndubueze, has been parading himself as the President-General of the community. He was the president of Isiama but his tenure expired October 2019. He was still on seat when he contested but failed and the cabinet dissolved the executives for new election. He’s now impersonating.
“Afaraukwu is made up of 3 communities. Ben Ohaeri is not the Village head of Isiama-Afaraukwu. When Eze Kanu was alive, he indicated interest but he was disqualified because of his antecedents in the community,” he said.
Speaking on what resulted to the fracas, Chimechefulam said: “I was not around when it started but the issue as I was informed that Doris Ogala, one of the victims, was trying to increase their family compound fence and reinforce their gate when Ikechukwu Ndubueze, who is known for fighting women, attacked her. This is not his first time either. He’s known for bringing shame and disgrace to the community. Ikechukwu Ndubueze, Ben Ohaeri, Emmanuel Kanu along with his cohorts attacked Doris, burnt a vehicle, destroyed the fence etc. I don’t know whatever caused their trouble, but with what I heard, the issues led to many wounded while some are presently in the hospital.”
By the grace of God, Doris Ogala’s late father was the first person that built an upstairs in this community when it was under-developed. He bore and brought up all his children here. For over 30 years we have been living harmoniously with each other in this community.
Anybody that is calling them to leave this community will not succeed, except they leave on their own free will. The gods of this land will fight everyone terrorizing the peace of this community.”
The traditional prime minister also said that: “Emmaunel Kanu, IPOB leader’s younger brother, alias Fine Boy, Ikechukwu Ndubueze and Ben Ohaeri mobilised their members and stormed my house on the 21st of May, 2020, threatening my life. These people are using IPOB to intimidate members of the community, trying to force people to join IPOB.
“Joining any organisation is a choice and people who wants to join should do so willing and not by force or a do-or-die affair. Before now these issues have already been reported at DSS office, but no action has taken place.
“These people are hostile, aggressive and threatening peace of the community. Am calling on the security services for independent and unbiased investigations to what is happening in what used to be a peaceful community. It’s not a community issue, or war, but those involved should be brought to book. Burning someone’s vehicle is arson, a crime punishable by law.”
It could be recalled that Mrs. Agbede was brought in by the Inspector-General of Police, as Abia State Police Commissioner to take over from Ene Okon after a recent disturbance at Ebem, Ohafia, which led to destruction of property after an alleged shooting of a trader in the town.
