Apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams, have in separate statements reacted to the controversial comments credited to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo.
DAILY POST had reported that Bodejo in an interview said that Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore had concluded arrangements to flag off its own security outfit which would be deployed across the country.
He said the Fulanis “produced Nigeria. They produced the first prime minister. If they produced the first president, another president, another president and so on, are they not the owner of the country?
“Fulanis are ruling Nigeria and they must continue to rule the country forever. That is the truth.”
Adams, in a statement on Sunday, said the group’s audacious statement showed that it enjoyed some powerful sponsors.
He added that the agitation by the Fulani to perpetuate power to themselves forever can only be resolved by restructuring.
He noted that what gives the Fulani the confidence is that what has been happening from the past shows that the Fulani and Northerners indeed own Nigeria.
“That is what has been giving them the temerity to claim that they own Nigeria. When you look at the present security architecture, you will agree with them that they own Nigeria.
“When you see Northerners holding 90 percent of the country’s architecture, you cannot deny their claims. How many Southerners have headed the Customs, Immigration? Look at the present composition, would you doubt that they own Nigeria?
“But the governors of the southern states must wake up and address this issue. They cannot because of trying to be politically correct to keep quiet when they are supposed to talk,” he noted.
Reacting through its Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere said it does not know any group in the country that can come out publicly to make the kind of statement the Fulani group is making and won’t be arrested.
“What did the IPOP do when the Federal Government rolled out arms against them? IPOB didn’t threaten the peace of the country the way Miyetti Allah is doing, yet see what happened to them.”
Afenifere said it was now obvious to Nigerians that the Fulani are in the next level of their nefarious activities and are seriously threatening the unity of the entire country.
“We would not be addressing those thugs, we would be addressing their sponsors and collaborators to know what they are playing with,” Afenifere said, adding that the Fulanis can only predict the beginning but may not know the end, warning them to be very careful.
The group’s statement added that Afenifere was not expecting the President Muhammadu Buhari government to say anything or take any action against Miyetti Allah, “because in the past, they have always made excuses for them.”
