The Jigawa State Government has cut its 2020 appropriation by 19% to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
This was contained in a letter sent by Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar to the state House of Assembly and obtained by DAILY POST.
DAILY POST reports that a total of N152.92b appropriation was signed into law for the 2020 fiscal year.
The budget was developed to enable the state government to sustain its “Next level economic growth and social transformation agenda.
In a letter which was read before the floor of the House by speaker RT. Idris Garba Jahun, the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis has affected the implementation of the budget approved under the appropriation law.
Over 65% of the projected income was directly linked to revenues received from Federation Account including the statutory allocation and value-added tax.
He said the 2020 approved estimates is proposed to be reduced from 152.92b to 124.357b
“A reduction of 28.563b equivalent to almost 19%”
While the budgets of 27 local governments were reduced from 72,805,060,345b to 56,224,220,221b
